
What is Meteor Tales?
Meteor Tales is a medieval fantasy role-playing game that features its own unique system, lore, monsters, and adventures. It is a game for heroic fantasy enthusiasts, sword & sorcery lovers, and those who wish a different take on classic fantasy gaming.
What System Does It Use?
It uses the Grit System, a unique system that features 3 Dice, a D20, a D12 & a D10 to monitor your character's overall performance. Your character's Grit represents your Health, Morale, Stamina, and other aspects of your character's well being. Your Grit levels will determine the Dice you use.
THE PURPOSE
The game is designed to produce tension and drama. This is achieved through the Grit System, the lack of modifiers and the fact that Grit drops rapidly on hits and critical hits. You are given many ways to protect yourself via maneuvers, spells and abilities but if you don't plan for them, the dice will be brutal since no modifiers exist other than occasional bonus dice due to environmental factors. The dice produce dramatic results and intensity, and can be manipulated only if characters strategize. The Skill System is designed to be modular, and allow further additions that will make characters feel different each time you play. Skills are also connected to kingdoms, clans and factions and so, origin and backstory will also affect your build.
SKILL SYSTEM
The signature Skill system of the game will allow you to design a character with not only unique flavor, but a vast array of skills that span across multiple magic systems, schools of war and many approaches to power. You will use modular magic and combine Shapes & Spells, or Sacraments for long rituals, or maybe you will create alchemical essences through monster blood, or harvest dead organs from corpses to fuel Necromancy.
SKILL TREE
Characters can choose to develop skills from various Domains, spanning from Adventuring, Crafting, Combat, Magic and Advanced Domains that derive from combinations of the above. There are also Legacy abilities that connect to Race, Clan, Ideology, Status, Family and other factors.
COMBAT
Combat is fast and deadly and your performance is based on Grit, which measures a creature's performance and changes dynamically during combat. This affects your attributes and dice, and will affect any creature far more than their actual Level. Your Grit is a unified bar that represents health, stamina, overall performance and affects the Dice you use. You start with a D20 for all your Rolls and descend into D10 as your performance falters.
ADVANCEMENT
Meteor tales allows you to develop your skills at your own pace through training, research and other methods. Players are free to engage in activities by utilizing their Effective Hours, a mechanic used to develop skills in game when a character wants it, via various methods, like training, researching or tutorship. Combining skills will unlock new skills of a different tier. Magic and Music will grant you Bardic Combat, while Dancing and Magic may unlock Battle Dancing. There are numerous combinations for unique builds.
HOW IT FEELS
The game sits at the crossroads of four core RPG pillars: Realism, Survival, Action, and Adventure. Each is deliberately designed to reinforce immersion. Realism drives tension and drama in combat, powered by the Grit System. Survival emphasizes resource management, rationing food, resisting disease, and enduring harsh environments. Action unfolds through fast-paced combat built on Actions and Reactions, creating constant, moment-to-moment tension. Adventure centers on travel, with robust mechanics and journey-based challenges that shape your character more than anything else in the game.
